Like Australia and other countries, NZ Immigration has also set some rules and conditions for the visa applicants who want to arrive in New Zealand as a visitor.

With this visa you can

  • Visit friends and family, tour New Zealand or enjoy adventure activity.
  • Study for up to 3 months.
  • Include your partner, and dependent children aged 19 and under, in your visitor visa application.

This visa is for anyone who wants to travel to New Zealand as a visitor.

For nationals from the following countries do not require to apply for this visa but the applicant must hold an NZeTA (New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority).

How to qualify

Meet health requirement

You will be asked questions regarding your health condition in the application form. Some applicants may need to go through medical test in order to complete the visa application process.

You must meet character requirement.

Have enough money

You must show evidence of sufficient funds to support yourself while you are in New Zealand. You need to show evidence of cash in bank. In some cases, asset documents may also play an important role, for example your house, land, etc.

Be a genuine visitor

You must only intend to:

  • stay temporarily in New Zealand
  • obey any condition and stay period attached to your visa

Best interests of the child

We might not grant this visa if it is not in the best interests of an applicant under 18.

The process

Step 1 – Gather your documents

Prepare and gather all your documentation you need for this visa. You must translate any documents written in other language into English by Notary Public or authorized persons.

Step 2 – Submit your application

Before you apply, check if you are from a Visa Waiver country. Apply online, upload your documents and pay applicable fees.

Step 3 – Wait for a visa decision

If there is anything else you need to do, visa officer will be in touch.

The document needed

  • Must have Documents for New Zealand Visa:
  • Original Passport with at least 6 months validity and minimum 3 blank pages + all old passports if any;
  • Visa Application form;
  • recent colour photographs
  • Personal Covering letter
  • Original updated Bank Statements with sufficient bank balance (last 6 months);
  • Income Tax Returns/Form 16 for last 3 years;
  • Supporting Financial Documents such as Fixed Deposits, Property Investments, Other Investments etc. (Optional);
  • Evidence of funds of at least NZ$ 1,000 per month for maintenance and accommodation, or NZ$ 400 per month if your accommodation has been prepaid. In the form of bank statements, saving books or fixed deposit certificates, or Completed sponsorship form INZ 1025 if your visit is being sponsored by a New Zealand citizen/resident.

Government Fees

Application cost $ 35

Citizens of Japan do not have to pay a fee or immigration levy for this application.

Each person must pay an International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL) of NZD $35. This is included in the cost.
