Overview

The China Skilled Worker Visa is for the People’s Republic of China and you meet all requirements to work in an occupation that is known as skilled work under the China Skilled Workers Instructions, you can apply for this visa. This visa requires you to have a job offer from an eligible employer in New Zealand.

With this visa you can

  • Arrive in New Zealand to work in a China skilled work occupation.
  • Study for up to 3 months in any 12-month period.

Things to note

  • The duration of your stay in NZ will depend on the duration of your job offer.
  • If your visa is approved for a duration of 3 years or less, you can apply for another visa for the balance of the time while you are in New Zealand. You’ll need to continue to meet all of the criteria to be granted another visa.
  • You are unable your partner or dependent children in your visa application, but they can apply for visas based on their relationship to you.

This visa is for Chinese skilled individuals who want to work in New Zealand temporarily

How to qualify

Genuine intentions: You must genuinely intend to meet the conditions of your visa

Citizenship: You must be a citizen of the People’s Republic of China. You must provide a valid passport of People’s Republic of China passport.

New Zealand job offer: You must have been offered a job in a ‘skilled work’ employment. You must provide evidence of your employment agreement, which must demonstrate:

  • the job that you’ll be working in that’s considered skilled work under the China Skilled Workers Instructions,
  • your employer’s name and contact details,
  • your working hours, which must be full-time,
  • the length of your contract,
  • details of any qualifications or experience you’ll need to do the work.

Qualifications: You must be qualified to do the work you’ve been offered

Occupational registration: You must send a certified copy of your New Zealand registration if you’ll be working in one of the following occupations:

  • auditor
  • early childhood teacher
  • electrician
  • medical diagnostic radiographer or medical radiation therapist
  • plumber
  • registered Nurse
  • veterinarian

If you need New Zealand registration to work in your occupation in New Zealand, you must come to New Zealand to start the registration process. You may apply for a visitor visa so you can do this. Before we can grant a visitor visa, we’ll need written confirmation from a New Zealand registration body that you’re eligible for registration.

Once you have New Zealand registration, you can apply for a China Skilled Workers visa.

Step 3 – You send your work visa application

Once you have any necessary New Zealand registration, you can apply for a work visa.

Step 4 – NZ Immigration will make a decision about your work visa application. If there is anything else required, you will be contacted.
