Successful business owners who have at least NZD $3 million in available funds or assets can apply for New Zealand residence. This residence application must be proceeded by submitting an Expression of Interest (EOI) which would tell the NZ Immigration about your business career and investment. You and your partner and dependent children can apply for New Zealand residence once your EOI is successful.

With this visa you can

  • Live and work in New Zealand.
  • Include your partner, and dependent children aged 24 and under, in your visa application.

Things to note

NZ Immigration uses a points-based system to assess eligibility for Investor 2 Resident Visas. If your expression of interest (EOI) is successfully selected then you will be invited to apply for residence, you’ll have 4 months to send your visa application.

The process

Step 1 – Expression of Interest

Complete an ‘Expression of Interest (EOI)’ form and submit together with your application fee. You are not required to send any supporting documents with your EOI.

Step 2 – Invitation to apply for residence

If you are awarded enough points for your EOI, you will be invited to apply for residence. If this happens, you will have 4 months to send your application and supporting documents.

You will also need to pay an application fee and immigration levy.

Step 3 – Transferring your funds to New Zealand and making your Investment.

If NZ Immigration approves your application in principle, you will have 12 months to transfer your funds to New Zealand and invest in an acceptable investment.

Step 4 – Grant of your residence visa

After the grant of your visa, NZ Immigration checks in with you to make sure you are meeting the conditions of your visa like keeping your funds invested and spending time in New Zealand.

If you have met all the conditions at the end of your four-year investment, you may be eligible for a permanent resident visa.
