IP SAFETY INDEX

The IP Safety Index evaluates an individual’s safety risk in more than 180 cities worldwide. The score considers potential threats posed by other people, accidents, occurrences, the current political climate, and natural calamities. As a result, the index takes into consideration several other factors in addition to crime. The index also considers deaths resulting from potentially dangerous occurrences like falls, fires, automobile accidents, and deaths caused by natural occurrences like earthquakes. In Western countries, people frequently view their level of safety as a given. In developing nations, this problem is frequently an ongoing concern. To escape the bloodshed in their own countries, millions of people throughout Latin America seek asylum in other countries. Even in a country like China, which has a relatively low incidence of violent crime, many deaths are attributable to either carelessness or a lack of developed social systems. Falls, automobile accidents, and natural calamities claim the lives of many persons in the country annually.
Most places that reached the top of our ranking are little cities in Europe. Singapore is an example of a city that is portrayed in a favorable light because it provides a setting that is, in many aspects, quite secure.
The homicide rate may have a disproportionately harmful impact on cities that have relatively low population densities. For instance, a city of 10,000 people that is safe but has one homicide in a year would have its homicide rate grow to ten homicides per 100,000 people, placing it above the average of cities worldwide.

METHODOLOGY

The whole data set was collected in December 2020. There was a sizable percentage of the data that was only accessible nationwide. Also, we concluded that a country safety map should be published.
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime’s published data on homicide includes a significant number of statistics that are now considered out of date since they were not brought up to date in the organization’s most recent report, which was issued in the year 2020.
It was possible to utilize various statistics, such as the rate of assaults, the rate of thefts, or even the rate of kidnappings. Because there is no worldwide aggregate assessment of these rates, we chose not to utilize them as a basis for our analysis. Most of them are contingent on the reporting rate in that nation and the statutory definition of the offense. It is possible that many minor crimes, such as the theft of a bicycle, may not get recorded in certain nations while they do in others. Theft of bicycles and armed robberies may be treated similarly in some nations, which may account for the greater prevalence of theft in some countries. The meaning of “kidnapping” is a legal concept that shifts from one nation’s law to another’s. In Canada, for instance, a father who removes his child from the care of his spouse would be guilty of kidnapping the child, although, in many other nations, this would not even be considered a criminal act.
We have manually modified the rate for those cities that have only had one homicide in the most recent year that has been documented because low-population cities are at a possible disadvantage regarding the homicide rate. If the one homicide is not a typical occurrence compared to the years before, then that rate will be modified to “0.”
The Numbeo safety index is derived from user polls on perceived safety inside each city that Numbeo.com collated.
The City Homicide Rate is the number of people killed in a city each year compared to its population of 100,000. When one person is responsible for another person’s death, this is called homicide. Depending on the specifics of the deceased person’s death, the term “homicide” can refer to a wide range of offenses, including but not limited to murder, manslaughter, justified homicide, killing in war, euthanasia, and execution.
The Global Peace Index (GPI), which Vision of Humanity collects, measures the level of peace in several nations based on 23 qualitative and quantitative variables.
Security risk is an assessment of the dangers posed to one’s safety within the country.
The political risk measures the likelihood of a country’s political system becoming unstable.
Natural disaster risk estimates a country’s vulnerability to natural disasters. It is based on the Global Risk Index, which computes the catastrophe risk for 171 nations based on how vulnerable each country is to natural disasters (cyclones, droughts, earthquakes, floods, and sea-level rise).
The natural disaster death rate is the estimated number of deaths per nation due to natural catastrophes such as earthquakes, floods, tsunamis, hurricanes, and other storms.
The road traffic death rate for a country is the annual rate of deaths that are caused by deaths caused by traffic accidents.
Death tolls tallied up from wars, and other armed engagements are included in this tally. It does not consider deaths that occurred due to the indirect impacts of war and battle, such as the proliferation of illnesses, inadequate nutrition, and the breakdown of health systems.

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes provided the information for the homicide rate statistics. The information was gathered from the statistics of the regional police departments to fill in the gaps in the data.
The Security and Political risks were extracted from the Risk Control Annual Risk Map.
The World Risk Index is compiled by the Institute for Environment and Human Security at the United Nations University.
