IP PASSPORT INDEX

The IP Passport Index assigns a ranking to each nation based on the perceived credibility of their national identification documents. The visa-free count (VFC) of each passport, the maximum allowed duration of stay in each country, and the countries’ overall popularity are considered while rating them. The term “visa-free capability” (VFC) refers to the number of countries that a passport bearer may access without the need for a visa, as well as the number of countries that offer visas upon arrival, visas on transit, or electronic visas that can be sent in less than 24 hours. The yearly list takes into consideration over two hundred different nations and territories. Also, the index provides useful data on the number of countries that do not require a visa to enter, the regulations governing dual citizenship, and the anticipated worth of the passport on the market.
The IP Passport Index aims to provide global citizens with the most informed resource possible. In response to the proliferation of citizenship through investment schemes, several governments have been working on expanding the number of countries their citizens may travel to without requiring a visa. It is essential to discriminate between “high-value” locations and “low-value” destinations, and the IP Passport Index is the sole tool that does so. While calculating the score for each nation, we consider the number of yearly tourists that visit each place as a measure of their popularity. The objective is to guarantee that “high-value” locations are portrayed accurately, with the result that locations such as France will not be awarded the same number of points as Palau. The time one is permitted to stay in a country is another crucial component of our Index. There should be a significant difference in the points awarded for staying in a location for 7 days instead of 6 months.
According to our research findings, the European Union and the United States are the two regions that should be prioritized first while searching for a second passport. Other locations do not hold the same significance for tourists from all over the world. Countries with the Gold badge have passports that do not require a visa to enter the United States or the European Union. Silver nations have passports allowing them to travel visa-free to the EU but not the US. Bronze nations are those whose passports allow for visa-free travel to the United Kingdom but not to the European Union or the United States. Countries denoted in black are not eligible for visa-free travel to the United States, the European Union, or the United Kingdom. In general, citizens of countries that do not require a visa to enter the United States are eligible for visa-free travel to an additional 130 countries. If your passport allows you to enter the United States without a visa, it also allows you to enter the European Union without a visa.

METHODOLOGY

All of the information was compiled during the summer of 2020 and considered alterations planned for the following years. Our index did not consider any temporary travel prohibitions imposed due to COVID-19. The data came either from the IATA Timatic database or otherwise from official government publications. There are occasionally inconsistencies between the two sources, which might call into question the integrity of certain material.

Passport Label
GOLD: EU and US visa-free travel
SILVER: EU visa-free travel
BRONZE: UK visa-free travel

We have included all of the states recognized by the United Nations, in addition to Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macau, and Kosovo, on our list of countries that can serve as destinations.
The Visa-Free Count (VFC) takes into account travel to all of the following destinations:
visa-free travelling
visa-on-arrival
electronic visas delivered within 24 hours.
Visa-free-on-transit for stays of more than 24 hours.

The Passport Index (PI) considers the VFC of a country or territory in addition to the number of yearly tourist arrivals and maximum stay time permitted there.
UNWTO compiles and publishes an annual report detailing the total number of tourists that visit each nation.
The duration of the authorized stay may consider any extensions or longer stays that might be purchased upon arrival.
Since visa-free entry may only be obtained for legitimate business purposes, tourism-related considerations often determine the length of stay.
The concept of dual citizenship analyzes whether or not it is permissible to possess more than one citizenship in a given country. Please see the accompanying notes for a more in-depth explanation.
