Citizens of a number of countries do not require to apply for visitor visa to travel to New Zealand. If you have a valid passport and belong to those countries then you are just ready to pack up your bags! There are some criteria which you must follow. You must genuinely intend to visit New Zealand temporarily and you must have enough funds to cover all expenses for the entire tour.

With this visa you can

  • Stay for 3 months — 6 months for visitors from the UK.
  • Arrive in New Zealand without a visa — you must be hold a passport from a visa waiver country to do this.
  • Bring your dependent family member with you, if they meet criteria for visa waiver travel.
  • Visit family and friends, and have a great time in New Zealand as a visitor.
  • Study for a short time.

This visa is for citizens and passport holders of selected countries who are eligible to travel to New Zealand without a visa.

Authority to travel: You must have an NZeTA before you plan to travel to New Zealand. You must be traveling to New Zealand with the passport you used to request your NZeTA.

Identity: You must provide identity documents

Genuine intentions: You must genuinely intend to visit New Zealand for a temporary period and intend to leave at the end of your visit.

Citizenship: You must be a citizen of a visa waiver country

Funds: You must have sufficient funds for your stay in New Zealand. You can show at least NZD $1,000 for each month of your stay, or if you’ve already paid for your living, NZD $400 for every month of your stay. Evidence that you have direct access to your funds might be checked when you check-in or arrive in New Zealand.

Onward travel: You must have a ticket out of New Zealand

Step 1 – Check the criteria and conditions to travel visa waiver

Checking the full details of NZeTA is very important. You must fulfil all the requirements for your visa waiver travel. If you are not certain that you meet the requirements, apply for a visa before you start your travel.

You must also have:

  • fulfilled with the laws and rules of your visa if you have been to New Zealand before
  • not passed more than 6 months in New Zealand in the 12 months before your visa will expire.

Step 2 – You request an NZeTA

You must hold an NZeTA before you leave for New Zealand.

Allow maximum 72 hours for Immigration to New Zealand to process your NZeTA request. Often it is done within 10 minutes!

Step 3 – Arrange your travel ticket and funds

You must:

  • have air ticket for travel to another country you have the right to enter at the end of your stay in New Zealand
  • depart from New Zealand no later than 3 months after your entry date. If you are a British citizen, you can leave by 6 months.
  • confirm you have sufficient money to cover the cost of your entire trip.

Step 4 – Travel to New Zealand

When you arrive in New Zealand, you must hold an NZeTA.

Airline authority may check your travel document and may also check your ticket for travel out of New Zealand.

On your way to New Zealand, you will be provided an arrival card to complete. Show your completed arrival card along with you travel document when you arrive.

  • Request your NZeTA before you travel. It will cost NZD $9 on the free iphone/Android app, or NZD $12 if finalized online.
  • You must also clear an International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL). The IVL costs NZD $35 and is paid at the same time as the NZeTA.
  • Passport holders of the United Stated of America do not have to pay any fee or immigration levy for this application.
