This visa will allow you to join your partner in New Zealand. With this visa, you will be able to get a full time job, and enjoy New Zealand’s scenery, adventure, culture and friendly people.

Length of Stay

  • 2 years, if you’ve been living with your partner for more than 12 months, or
  • 1 year, if you’ve been living with your partner for less than 12 months.

With this visa you can

  • Come to New Zealand with your partner.
  • Work in New Zealand.
  • Study for up to 3 months.

This visa is for partners of New Zealand Work Visa Holders. This visa will allow the partner to come to New Zealand, work temporarily and stay up to 2 years.

Genuine intentions: You must genuinely intend to meet the conditions of your visa

Your partner’s immigration status: Your partner must be a New Zealand citizen or resident

Your relationship with your partner: You and your partner must be living together in a genuine and stable relationship

Funds or sponsorship: You must have enough money to live on while you are in New Zealand or have an acceptable sponsor.

Eligible NZ supporting partner: Your partner must support your visa application, and be eligible to support a partnership-based resident visa application within 12 months

Your partner’s character: Your partner must be of good character

You and your partner’s plans to be in New Zealand: You and your partner must be planning to live in New Zealand for the same period of time

Step 1 – Your partner supports your visa application

Your partner must fill up and sign a ‘Form for Partners Supporting Partnership-Based Temporary Entry Application’. Your partner is required to give you his/her completed application with all supporting documents for you to attach with your visa application.

Step 2 – You send your visa application

You must fill up and sign a ‘Partnership-Based Temporary Visa Application’. You must send it to Immigration New Zealand with complete application fee, immigration levy, and supporting documents including your partner’s application.

Step 3 – Decision about your application

If there is anything else you need to do, Immigration New Zealand will ask for it.

Step 4 – Traveling to New Zealand

If you have not made your travel to New Zealand, check what You will need to do before you arrive.

  • Two passport-sized colour photographs.
  • Passport or travel document*.

Partners of New Zealand citizens, residents and visa holders must provide

  • Evidence you are currently living together in a genuine and stable relationship (see below).
  • Evidence of the duration you have been living together with emphasis on the last 12 months.
  • Evidence of the duration of your partnership.
  • If you are 16 or 17, evidence that your parent or guardian supports your partnership

Visa Application Fee: NZD$ 426

This is the charge for Immigration New Zealand to process your application. Immigration New Zealand does not refund application costs if we decline your application. A non-refundable immigration levy is charged and is added in the application Fee.

  • You can only have this visa for 2 years, but before it expires you can apply for residence based on your partnership.
  • You cannot include dependent children in your visa application, but they can apply for visas based on their relationship to you.
