Temporary foreign employees who work full-time in Alberta fall into this group. You must be employed by an Alberta employer and have a qualifying occupation to be considered for the Alberta Opportunity Stream.

A constructive (LMIA) Labour Market Impact Assessment is one of the most basic criteria.

Minimum qualifications include meeting residency requirements, your profession, the type of work permit you have, and your occupation and education. You’ll also need to show your work experience and a job offer from Alberta.

Make sure you have a valid temporary residency status in Canada before mailing your application to Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program. This is a temporary foreign worker visa that allows you to work in Canada for a limited period of time. Your profession must be qualified, and you must have all of the required documentation on hand.

Temporary foreign employees who are already employed full-time in Alberta and have a full-time job offer from an Alberta employer in a qualifying occupation are eligible for the Alberta Opportunity Stream (AOS).

You must have a valid work permit – not implied status, automatic extension of status, or restoration status – for a qualified occupation at the time your application is mailed to the AINP or submitted via the AINP portal, and at the time the AINP assesses your application.

Criteria from the Alberta Opportunity Stream (AOS) can apply when your application is mailed to the AINP or submitted via the AINP portal, when the AINP assesses your application, or both. To ensure that you meet the eligibility requirements, carefully read the criteria.

The AINP defines the ‘mailing date’ as follows:

  • If sent by registered mail, the mailing date is the date the item is accepted by Canada Post.
  • For parcels, the mailing date is the date Canada Post accepts a parcel or the date a courier service picks up the parcel.

The AINP may confirm the mailing date with the mail service provider, including online tracking information.
