The visa subclass 884 is the Contributory Aged Parent Visa that allows aged parents of an Australian citizen or permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen to live in Australian temporarily. With this visa, the applicant can live in Australia for up to 2 years, do business or job and study in Australia, and apply for a permanent Contributory Aged Parent visa (subclass 864).
This temporary visa, subclass 884, lets the aged parent of a settled Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen stay temporarily in Australia.

Check your eligibility
If you are an aged parent of an Australian PR or citizen or eligible New Zealand Citizen, you must be aware of the balance of family test. You must know clearly what this really means. A parent meets the balance of family test if:

Gather your documents
This visa application requires a number of documents including documents for any partner or dependents who might be applying with you. At the time of visa lodgment you also need to submit documents of your sponsor.
Step 3
Apply for the visa
During your application lodgment, you must be in Australia. This visa must be submitted as a paper based application. You will be unable to apply for this visa if you have already applied for or hold a Sponsored Parent (Temporary) (subclass 870) visa.

You can’t lodge your applications for this visa in person. You can send your application by post to the Parent Visa Processing Centre in Perth, Australia.
Step 4
After you apply
You will be notified by email if your visa is finalized and approved. If the immigration officer requires additional documents, you will also get notified.

Visa outcome
When the DHA makes your visa decision, you must be in Australia. You will see the following things in your visa grant notification:

This visa costs from AUD 33,285. There is an additional charge for each family member who applies with you.
You must pay the first instalment when you apply and the second instalment must be paid when you will be asked to pay.
The visa fee will increase for adding additional family members.
There will be some other fees for medical, police check and documents notarization.
