The bridging visa A, subclass 010, is basically a temporary connecting visa that allows the visa holder to stay in Australia lawfully until the finalization of his or her application for a substantive visa comes through. Bridging Visa A sanctions the applicant to stay within the region of Australia and expect the result of the application for a further substantive visa.
Bridging visa A (BVA) is a temporary visa that allows you to stay in Australia after your existing substantive visa expires and while your new substantive visa application lodgment is being processed.

Apply for the visa
How you apply will depend mainly on:
You must not apply differently for the BVA than you applied for your new substantive visa. Also, you must consider applying for the BVA on paper based if you need a bridging visa for judicial review. At the time of BVA application, you must be in Australia

Have your dependent family applications processed together and upload documents to their applications.
Apply on paper
If you applied paper-based application for your new substantive visa
Send your BVA application to the mail address that you sent your new substantive visa application to.

DHA will let you know when they have received your application and documents.
Wait for DHA to contact you.

Visa outcome
DHA will let you know in writing our decision about your visa approval.
You and anyone included in your application must be in Australia when we make a decision.

Working in Australia:
If you get a BVA that does not permit you to work in Australia, you can apply for a further Bridging Visa with no conditions if you can prove financial hardship.
Department of Home Affairs will evaluate your situations in relation to your entitlement that you need to work. For permission to do work in Australia, if you do not meet the requirements for work, and you are still qualified for a Bridging visa A, DHA will grant you a new BVA with the same work prevention or limit condition that was on your preceding BVA.
